Summer Associate Program
About United for Service
United for Service (“UFS”) strives to instill a sense of social responsibility and leadership among young Muslim adults in North America by providing first-hand opportunities to serve others globally and locally. This goal is achieved through a variety of activities, the core being our annual global volunteer trips to India, Morocco and Mexico, and we have ambitious plans to expand our program offerings in the USA and Canada. We are a growth-oriented nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status in the State of California.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Summer Associate Program is designed to provide motivated young Muslim adults in North America with the opportunity to gain experience working with a growing nonprofit organization. Fellows will gain exposure to the different processes involved with managing UFS and will be provided with numerous opportunities to participate in various planning and marketing initiatives. Fellows will work closely with various members of the team as we prepare to launch and / or grow our programs and as such, must have strong communication skills and must take ownership for their work.
Some of the responsibilities may include:
- Conducting research for grants and funding opportunities for UFS;
- Develop / manage mailing lists and databases containing volunteer and donor contact information;
- Creating and / or distributing marketing material at local masjids and community centres; Participate in the execution of the UFS regional volunteer recruitment strategy
- Perform research for global and domestic programming initiatives as required; and
- Support the UFS executive team with ad-hoc requests as they arise.
Experience and Qualification Requirements
- Takes initiative with a high level of self-direction and motivation
- A track record of community involvement (within your local community, highschool/college campus, masjid, etc.)
- Strong written and oral communication skills;
- Pays attention to detail and is able to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision;
- Professional and mature demeanor; and
- Passionate about public service in the local and / or global community!
Please note the following with respect to the position:
- This is a voluntary (i.e. unpaid) position;
- The position is open to young Muslim Adults in North America between the ages of 16-30; and
- Our team members are located across North America and thus you can work from where you feel comfortable (i.e. no formal office structure)
